Engagement Gift & Valentines Decor...

Well it has been a VERY unproductive weekend here at 6904... I have been in bed since Friday night with fever, tested positive for strep-- not the flu (thank goodness). So, needless to say my new years resolution has yet to be touched for another weekend! In the meantime, I have done a few projects since my last post! I will share those with you today.

A couple of weeks ago our friends Scott & Kristen got engaged!! I made them a really cute gift & naturally, forgot to give it to them! I was more excited to give Kristen wedding magazines! That was my favorite thing to do when Taylor and I were engaged. I made Scott & Kristen their first stereotypical "Monogrammed Wedding Gift". A frame with their soon to be married name!

I started out with a frame... I have a stash of frames that I tend to stock up on during Hobby Lobby's sale. So naturally, I just grabbed one from the closet. :) I filled the frame with some burlap-- once again, this is one of those things that I have just hanging out in the closet!!

Lastly, thanks to my handy dandy Cricut...

I cut a "C" from black vinyl and pasted right smack on the front of the glass and ended with this great engagement gift!

Congrats to Scott & Kristen !!

Last week I also got to work on a Valentine's Day Banner...

I cut the large hearts at 4'', the medium hearts are 1 3/4" and the letters are 1''. I cut them all out on my cricut machine and hot glued them all to twine. I gave the banner to my mom to use in her booth this month at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo! Hopefully she will email me a picture or two to share with you later on!

Show Her Off...

Any chance to be "shown off" is good.... Over at Thrifty Decor Chick-- which was one of my blogs to read, they are offering to show off a NEWBIE blogger! I am a newbie and would love for some sweet blog love to spread here at 6904!

To get this started... Here are my top 3 posts so far on this oh so young blog of mine!

#1: Project Dresser.
This was one of my first posts and I love the dresser, so basically it is my fav post so far! This dresser was my husband's before we were married. When we moved into our home, we chose to use it in our bedroom after a little fixin' up of course!!

#2: Burlap Initial Frame.
This was one of my first and best (in my opinion) crafts. I made it with left over fabrics and it cost next to nothing. I gave it to my mom & i remember my dad asking how much it cost me to make it... because he wanted to sell some! I took that as a compliment.

#3: Sprucing up Christmas Garland.
Christmas was so much fun this year because it was our first Christmas in our home. I shopped a lot, A LOT, a lot for decorations. My favorite diy decor this year was sprucing up some garland. I wrapped each ornament individually this year-- so they will be nice and tidy next November when I pull the box down from the attic.

I know a few of my followers are young bloggers just like me, so head on over to Thrifty Decor Chick and read about her offer to show off your blog!!

Chair revamp...

This was one of my first projects to complete when we moved into the house... I actually did not even have a blog then, so I am just now able to post this one! My inspiration was the Drab to Fab Linky party for chairs! I shop at a few antique malls for most of my junk and these 2 white chairs were just another cheap thrill.

Before: Pink Velvet... LOVELY.

After: Much, much better...

My color scheme came from Pier 1 where I picked up these chairs... before we even moved into our house! At one point, they were in the walkway of our apartment's living room. That got old really quickly!!

It is so fuuny because our dining room looks so different now. I still have the same furniture, but the table is turned the other way and the chairs and flip flopped. I have added a window valance, definitley moved that table and basket and added some decor to the wall!

Valentine's Day begins...

I love Valentine's Day and I love it more because I am a teacher and I can do many cute arts and crafts with my class. I started by making of couple of things to decorate my house with. I am planning (key word--planning) on creating a Valentine's vignette in my dining room. But, seeing as it is already January 21st, I would not hold your breath. :)

I have not told you all this yet, at least I don't remember telling you-- but for our 1 year anniversary, Taylor gave me a Cricut. He was very creative! Since he did his research, he learned that the first anniversary is the paper anniversary-- SO I GOT A CRICUT!! I have just begun using it and figuring it out. It has been fun to use and I plan on getting every penny out of that little machine!

My first project was to create some V-day decor. I dug in my closets and found some frames I bought clearance at Hobby Lobby, for about $5. I grabbed tons of super cute scrapbook paper at Hobby Lobby's 50% off sale-- LOVE THAT! Here is what I have made so far!!

For my first try on the machine-- not too bad! I hope to get the vignette done this weekend and I will post pictures soon! Have a great weekend!!

What we have been up to...

This past weekend was my Dad's 50th birthday, so we visited my family in south Texas for his celebration. Before we left town, we were busy with a shelf. I will share pictures of that in a little bit. Today is a school holiday-- so I have been out shopping, having lunch with my handsome hubby and just relaxing. I am hoping to get back to tackling my resolution and to do list this week! We are currently planning our recycling center, and getting the pantry a little more up to par!! Hope you will check back later this week!

Here are some pictures of what we have been up to lately!

Here is the cake that my Grandma made for my Dad.

We, the kids, gave my dad a grill for his birthday.

Here is a sneak peak at the shelves we have been working on.
I hope to post all about this project later in the week!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Tackling my list...

Today, I was able to complete 2 projects-- even though it was our first snow of the year! Taylor and I went out to World Market and Pier 1 in search of a cute tray and cups to fix up my bathroom vanity. I finally organized my makeup and got it out the old, disgusting, filthy bag that I have used for about 4 years.

So, off my 2011 To-Do list, I am crossing out #14: Dresser Tops-Makeup Organization.
Here are some pictures of the snow today. I really wish it would stick! School will be so much fun tomorrow, the kids love love love snow days and I cannot wait to hear all of their stories!

The 2 projects we were able to tackle today were the bathroom vanity and hanging a cute chandelier in the laundry room! Here are some pictures of those projects!

Before...BORING!
During....After...So much better & I like it!

On to the bathroom vanity.... Before: this place stresses me out in the morning.

Ahhh... clean and organized. I have a basket with all of my facial products and then another with all of my hair care and body care products. I gave Taylor a basket of his own to store his things all in one place. This has been great and makes our mornings much more peaceful!
This tray is going to stay on top of the vanity. I bought plain drinking glasses to store the brushes, mascaras and liners neatly. This is going to keep the makeup clean and easily accessible for me in the mornings.

Getting clean and organized is such a great feeling!

Crossing To-Do items off one at a time...

My last post was about our 2011 To-Do list. The list revolves around getting organized and getting our home into better shape! So, tonight I can cross one item off the list.

6. Cords---

By cords, that meant fixing up our cabinets under the entertainment center. This quickly became a catch all during the move. It was great to clean them out and get organized. I bought a couple of baskets and tubs to toss the junk in and we cleaned each shelf!

Here are some pictures of tonight's project.

Here is the final product, minus the messy floor in the picture! The main goal of the project was to get the cords in place and under control. Taylor did all of the work on this project--

THANK GOODNESS!
